Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma has criticized the portrayal of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as Lord Parshuram during his birthday celebrations in Varanasi. His remarks came after Congress workers reportedly depicted Rahul Gandhi in the form of the Hindu deity and performed a milk ablution ceremony as part of the celebrations.
Reacting to the incident, Sharma said that offering milk to someone on their birthday may be understandable, but presenting a political leader in the form of a deity is inappropriate. He questioned the comparison of any human being with a divine figure.
"Giving someone milk is understandable, but portraying a person as God is not appropriate. How can any human being be compared to a deity?" Sharma said while speaking to reporters.
The remarks have added a political dimension to the celebrations, with the incident drawing reactions from different quarters. The portrayal of political leaders in religious forms has often sparked debate, with supporters viewing such acts as symbolic gestures of admiration, while critics consider them inappropriate.
The event took place in Varanasi during celebrations marking Rahul Gandhi's birthday, where Congress workers organized various programs and paid tribute to the party leader in a unique manner.
