Woman Dies in NH-48 Hit-and-Run at Bilaspur Chowk

GURUGRAM: A 52-year-old woman died at Bilaspur Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-48) on Tuesday after an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit the motorcycle she was travelling on from behind and ran over her, police said. The driver fled.

According to a complaint filed by her husband, Ved Prakash, he and his wife Pratibha were returning to their home in Dharuhera in Rewari from their daughter's in-laws' house in village Kasan on their motorcycle. Ved Prakash suffered minor injuries. Pratibha died at the spot. He told police he could not see the vehicle's registration number or identify the driver and sought action against the unknown motorist.

Case at Bilaspur police station

After receiving information, police reached the spot and found Pratibha's body along with the damaged motorcycle. The body was shifted for autopsy. The motorcycle was taken into police custody. A case has been registered under Sections 125 (rash or negligent act endangering human life or personal safety), 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bilaspur police station.

The accused remains at large and the vehicle number is not known. Police said they are examining the circumstances of the collision and working to identify the vehicle and driver. Until that identification is made, the matter stays an investigation into an alleged hit-and-run rather than a named prosecution.
