Notorious Inter-State Gangster Lallan Singh Killed in High-Stakes UP STF Encounter in Saharanpur

SAHARANPUR / VARANASI — In a major breakthrough against organized crime, a notorious gangster wanted for a string of cold-blooded murders, police executions, and high-profile bank robberies across Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh was gunned down in a fierce encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF).

The deceased, identified as Lallan Singh alias Lalan, was a native of Anandgolwa village in Bihar’s Samastipur district. Singh carried a combined bounty of ₹1.25 lakh on his head, which included a ₹1 lakh reward announced by the Varanasi Police Commissionerate and an additional ₹25,000 bounty from the Chandauli Police.

The Shootout on Sarsawa-Nakur Road

According to police records, the encounter took place on the Sarsawa–Nakur road in Saharanpur district. An STF team led by Additional SP Lal Pratap Singh was conducting a tactical vehicle-checking drive when they signaled two men riding a motorcycle to pull over.

Instead of complying, the suspects opened fire on the police personnel and attempted to flee into the darkness. In the retaliatory firing that followed, Lallan Singh sustained critical bullet injuries. He was rushed to a nearby community health center and later referred to the Saharanpur District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His unidentified accomplice managed to escape the spot, and an intensive combing operation has been launched to track him down.

A Trail of Terror: From Varanasi to Patna

Lallan Singh had been a high-priority target for both the Uttar Pradesh and Bihar police forces for several years. He first drew intense pan-state spotlight in Varanasi in November 2022 following a daring assault that sent shockwaves through the regional police department.

The Rohania Shooting (November 2022): Singh allegedly shot Sub-Inspector Ajay Yadav in the Rohania area of Varanasi. After critically wounding the officer, Singh fled the scene with the sub-inspector's official service pistol and personal belongings. Just days prior, on November 1, 2022, he had shot a youth in Chandauli to snatch his motorcycle.

Beyond his crimes in Uttar Pradesh, Singh ran a ruthless syndicate in Bihar that specialized in heavily armed heists:

  • Executions of Law Enforcement: He was the prime accused in the targeted killings of two police sub-inspectors during separate confrontations in Patna and surrounding districts.

  • Financial Heists: Singh's gang was directly linked to a series of violent bank dacoities and ATM cash van robberies.

  • Civilian Casualties: During these cash-van robberies, his gang executed a bank cashier, a security guard, and at least three civilians who attempted to resist.
