Nothing has started releasing stable Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, to Phone (3). The general-release announcement arrived on 12 October, replacing the earlier mid-October expectation with an actual rollout. Delivery is staggered by region and device, so an Indian owner may still have to wait for the update to appear.
The official Nothing community announcement was posted at 15:30 IST on 12 October. The accompanying Phone (3) changelog identifies build C5.0-260924-2115. Owners can check Settings, then System, then System update. This is a stable release, so receiving it does not require joining a beta programme or installing a beta-access package.
Nothing recommends backing up photos, call logs and contacts before upgrading. It also acknowledges that installation can temporarily increase heat and power use. Those installation effects should not be confused with a verified long-term battery problem; this report does not establish such a fault.
Changes to everyday controls and the camera
The update adds a dedicated Glyph app and a Glyph Timer widget for the phone's lighting interface. It also allows notifications and Quick Settings to use separate panels. That optional arrangement sits under Settings, Notifications, General, then Notifications and Quick Settings, according to the changelog.
Home-screen organisation gains a bulk-arrangement option: long-press the home screen and choose Arrange. Nothing is also adding a translucent launcher style through Customisation, Theme & Style, then Translucent. A Geist font and two lock-screen clock styles are among the listed visual changes.
A three-colour status indicator distinguishes sensitive access, location sharing and AI processing. The changelog also introduces Collector and Away Time widgets. These are specific interface additions, rather than evidence that every application on the handset gains new AI functions from the operating-system update.
Camera Tuning provides seven adjustable effects, while video gains Filters and Tuning, Dual-view and H.265 support. Expanded Dark theme and adjustable HDR brightness are also listed. The changes describe available controls and formats; they do not establish an independently measured improvement in image quality or battery endurance.
Quick Settings also lets users connect or disconnect a Bluetooth device by tapping its icon once. Nothing directs owners who need to report update feedback to Settings, then System, then Feedback.
Other Nothing phones have later windows
Nothing's India rollout page places Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (4a), Phone (3a) Pro and Phone (3a) in an early-November window. Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus follow in mid-November. These are indicative general-release windows, not confirmation that the same Phone (3) build can be installed on those handsets.
Phone (3a) Lite is listed for late December, while Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro are in the mid-January 2027 group. The company's roadmap says Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 will not receive OS 5 because their major-version support periods have ended. That statement concerns this operating-system upgrade, not a blanket claim about every other form of support.
Nothing also notes that application updates can arrive separately through the Play Store and that some features, including Essential Voice, are restricted to selected devices. A system-version number and an app-version number need not change together. If a named function is absent after installation, the relevant app and device-compatibility information remain worth checking.
Stable OS access does not open every beta
Essential Apps is still a separate closed beta with a waiting list. Updating Phone (3) to the stable operating system does not automatically grant access to it. Dalimss News' Essential Apps beta report explains that earlier programme, which preceded the stable-release announcement on 12 October.
Before installing, an owner should check the handset's own update screen and read the release information shown for that device. The published build identifier helps distinguish this release from an older version or a preview discussion. A missing download on the first days of a staggered rollout is not, by itself, evidence that the phone has been excluded.
For preparation, the backup sections of Dalimss News' phone-data checklist can help readers review what they have preserved. Its factory-reset instructions are for transferring or selling a device, not a requirement for this update. Nothing's official route for the stable release remains the phone's System update menu.
