Three Trucks Collide on NH-19 at Mirzamurad; Driver Cut Free From Cabin

Three trucks collided around 5 am on Monday on National Highway 19 near the Khajuri outpost in Mirzamurad police station limits, injuring three people; trailer driver Rafiq, 35, of Alwar was cut free from a crushed cabin after a roughly two-hour rescue with police and NHAI teams.

Police said one truck was slowing or turning for diesel when it braked suddenly. The following truck hit it, and a third truck piled into the wreck. The trailer's front end took the worst damage. Rafiq, 35, from Alwar in Rajasthan, was trapped in the cabin for about two hours. Rescuers used gas cutters to open the cabin. He sustained a serious leg injury and was taken to a private hospital.

The second truck's driver, Raju Kumar, was lightly injured. A third person was also hurt in the pile-up. The driver of the first truck fled with the vehicle, and Mirzamurad police are searching for him. Cranes cleared the wrecks from the carriageway and traffic on NH-19 was restored after the rescue and tow-away.

Sub-Inspector Gopal Ji Kushwaha, the Mirzamurad outpost in-charge, said three people were injured and that action in the case is under way. National Highways Authority of India teams worked with police at the Khajuri outpost stretch during the cabin cutting and clearance.
