Thar Driver Arrested in Sector 89 Cab Ramming

GURUGRAM: Kherki Daula police have arrested a 25-year-old Delhi resident and recovered a Thar SUV in connection with an alleged late-night cab ramming in Sector 89, officials said after a briefing on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Manjeet Rawat of village Bharthal. According to police, he was arrested from Gurugram on 19 September after a cab driver approached a Kherki Daula police team on 18 September and reported that an SUV had suddenly collided with his vehicle near Sati Chowk.

What police say happened

Police said Rawat and companions from his village were travelling toward Sohna when they consumed alcohol. An argument broke out over who would drive, followed by a physical altercation. When his companions booked a cab to leave, police allege, Rawat deliberately rammed his Thar into the cab.

Officers said the impact was severe enough to deploy both front airbags of the cab and wreck its front end. The cab driver and the two men inside escaped serious injury. A video of the incident also circulated on social media, police noted, though investigators said they were relying on the complaint, vehicle recovery and interrogation for the case file.

A senior police officer said the Thar used in the incident has been recovered and that further legal proceedings are being carried out under the law. Investigation remains underway. The allegations are under probe and have not been tested in court.

Sector 89 sits on a busy corridor that feeds traffic toward Sohna and the southern fringe of the city. Night-time quarrels that spill onto the carriageway quickly draw viral clips and public pressure for arrests. In this case, the complainant was the cab driver who said he was caught in someone else's dispute after picking up passengers near Sati Chowk.

Police said the recovery of the Thar closes one immediate gap in identifying the vehicle. The next steps typically include medical examination records if any were opened for the occupants, forensic checks on the damaged cab and Thar, and statements from the two passengers who were travelling with the driver. Rawat's Bharthal address places him outside the district, so production and remand timelines will depend on how quickly papers move between stations.

For road users, the episode is a reminder that alcohol-fuelled arguments on arterial roads can turn into vehicle-as-weapon complaints within minutes. Kherki Daula police have treated the matter as a registered case rather than a simple road accident, citing the alleged deliberate collision after the quarrel. Until the investigation concludes, officials said, legal proceedings will continue on the basis of the complaint and recovered vehicle.
