Lalpur Head Constable Loses Leg After Car Hits Bike; Driver Sought

Head constable Chandrasen Singh of Lalpur-Pandeypur police station was critically injured on Sunday night when a Gujarat-registered car hit his motorcycle near Tulsi Heera Lawn in Lalpur, dragging him about 50 metres; his left leg was severed at the knee and his pelvis fractured, and he was admitted to the BHU Trauma Centre.

Singh, a native of the Mehnagar police station area in Azamgarh and posted at Lalpur-Pandeypur, was riding with an acquaintance toward the Lalpur chowki when the car struck the bike. Police say the impact dragged him roughly 50 metres along the road. The left leg was cut off at the knee and the pelvic region fractured. He was shifted to the BHU Trauma Centre in a critical condition.

The car was seized. The driver fled the scene and remains absconding. Raids are on for the arrest, according to Lalpur-Pandeypur police. An FIR was lodged on the complaint of the injured head constable's wife, Rajita Singh. Inspector Atul Kumar Singh is handling the case as stated by the station.

Police inquiry so far points to the car belonging to a doctor linked to Dhiraj Hospital. That ownership lead is being treated as part of the investigation, not as a settled finding against any named doctor until the probe closes and the absconding driver is traced.

On Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Varuna) Rajesh Kumar Pandey visited the BHU Trauma Centre, spoke to doctors and the family, and directed that full medical support be arranged for the injured head constable. The visit put a senior Varuna range officer on the ward floor within a day of the crash.
