Ratan, a resident of Chittupura under Lanka police station limits, who was in GRP Cantt custody on an allegation of theft at Cantt railway station, fled Kabirchaura Divisional Hospital at about 3:45 pm on Monday, 14 September 2026, while a registration slip was being prepared in the emergency ward. GRP jawans Shiv Mohan Paswan and Mohammad Masook had brought him for medical examination. After the escape, GRP raised an alarm and chased him; he crossed the road into a lane, where nearby youths caught him and handed the situation back to the escort party.
Ratan is alleged to have stolen at Cantt railway station; he is not described here as convicted. Medical production under escort is routine in custody cases. What broke the routine was the dash from the emergency ward while paperwork for the registration slip was underway.
Path of flight was short and public. Out of the hospital gate, across the road, into a lane. GRP pursuit followed the alarm. Nearby youths closed the gap and recaptured him before the chase could widen across the chowk.
Kotwali Inspector Dayashankar Singh said city police had not received a separate tip of that kind on the escape; the matter remained with GRP. That jurisdictional note matters. Hospital geography sits inside the city, but the custody and the chase belonged to the Government Railway Police unit that held the accused from Cantt. Collapsing GRP and Kotwali into one confused chase narrative would blur who had charge.
Escort duty for a medical check is a known risk window. How the accused slipped the emergency-ward edge while a slip was being made is a question for GRP’s own after-action.
Recapture by youths in a lane does not close the theft allegation; it only restores custody. Ratan returns to the GRP Cantt case file as an accused who briefly left a hospital check and was caught again the same afternoon.
