JioShield costs ₹1,000 upfront for a year, even though its package includes recharge vouchers with the same combined face value. For a family considering the parental-control service, that distinction comes before the feature list: the vouchers are conditional future discounts, not money returned to the bank account or a zero-cost subscription.

The annual fee includes applicable taxes under Jio's published programme terms, price as of 13 October 2026, 07:25 IST. This is a check of the current offer, not a claim that Jio launched the service today. The opened terms do not provide a calendar closing date for enrolment.

JioShield connects a parent's JioThings app with a JioShield app on the child's phone. Its functions combine location information with controls over apps and screen time. The cost, compatible devices and access to a child's information all need to be considered together; buying the programme does not itself establish that a family's existing phones meet the requirements.

What the recharge vouchers are worth

The package includes ten vouchers of ₹100 each. The current product page says they are redeemable against Jio mobility prepaid unlimited-5G plans costing ₹399 or more. Ordinary mobile recharge costs remain separate from the JioShield fee. This is not a year of included voice and mobile-data service.

The programme terms give each voucher 12 months from issuance, require it to be used once and in full, and exclude cash redemption. Combining vouchers or other benefits is not allowed unless Jio specifically permits it. A family that does not make enough eligible recharges before expiry cannot assume it will realise the entire ₹1,000 face value.

The terms also contain awkward wording around the ₹399-and-above plan threshold and higher or lower denominations. The product page's eligibility description should therefore be checked against the voucher actually shown in MyJio and the intended recharge. It would be premature to promise that every plan above the threshold accepts the voucher without examining that redemption screen.

The one-year programme runs from activation. Its advance fee is generally non-refundable after payment, subject to the exceptions in the terms and applicable law. Jio says the renewal price will be notified at least 30 days before expiry and the customer can choose not to renew. Services and unused vouchers cease when the programme expires or is terminated.

Both sides of the pairing need a Jio number

Jio's expanded FAQs require Jio numbers for both the parent and child. The verified child-device requirement is an Android smartphone running Android 10 or later. A single parent account can pair and manage up to two child devices. The parent signs into JioThings using the Jio number associated with the programme.

The page describes JioThings on Android and refers to iOS availability in future-tense wording tied to 1 October. That line alone is not adequate confirmation of current iPhone support. A household using an iPhone for the parent should verify the actual supported app and pairing route before paying rather than infer compatibility from the date.

If an older family handset is being repurposed, check its installed Android version and the information still stored on it first. Dalimss News' phone backup and handover checklist addresses data preparation. It is separate from JioShield's onboarding instructions and does not make an unsupported handset compatible.

Current controls, and features still pending

Jio describes near-real-time location updates, a 30-day location history and entry or exit alerts for defined zones such as home or school. The page also lists SOS alerts, a low-battery warning and a remote-ring function that can make the child's phone ring when it is on silent.

Parents can approve apps and set daily screen-time limits. Incoming calls can be restricted to approved contacts, but the page explicitly marks outgoing-call and message blocking as coming soon. A parent whose main requirement is blocking those activities should not treat that future wording as an available control.

Jio also lists Safety Call, which it says lets a parent use JioThings to hear what is happening around the child's phone. Features that expose a child's whereabouts or surroundings merit an open family discussion about when they will be used. The product is presented for parents and guardians, not as a tool for secretly monitoring another adult.

These descriptions are manufacturer claims, not results from an independent test. The app terms do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, timeliness or accuracy. A delayed location or alert should not be treated as conclusive evidence of what is happening, and the service cannot substitute for contacting emergency assistance when needed.

Thirty days of visible history is not a deletion promise

The JioShield privacy policy describes recurring location collection using technologies including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when location services are enabled. It also covers personal, diagnostic and usage information. The visible 30-day location-history feature is not a commitment to erase every backend record after 30 days.

Retention is instead described in relation to the purposes for which information is needed and legal requirements. The policy covers uses such as providing and improving services, recommendations and promotional communication, alongside specified sharing with affiliates and disclosures for legal or security purposes. Withdrawing consent or seeking deletion can affect access to the service, and some requests remain subject to stated constraints.

Before enrolment, parents should read the permissions and consent screens alongside these policies. A family may be comfortable with screen-time controls but have different expectations about continuous location information. Jio's privacy grievance contact is grievance.officer@jio.com for questions that the published policy does not resolve.

Lost-device reporting and checks for unknown SIMs are separate tasks. The Dalimss News Hindi guide to Sanchar Saathi covers those government telecom tools. Neither they nor a JioShield subscription remove the need to check the phone's compatibility, the recurring recharge requirement and the scope of monitoring before signing up.
