IMD Sees Partly Cloudy Skies; Babatpur Logs Nil Rain, Morning Mist

The India Meteorological Department's local product for Varanasi BHU dated Wednesday, 30 September, showed nil rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8:30 am, a minimum temperature of 25.8°C (1.7°C above normal), and a partly cloudy outlook with no warning for 30 September through 2 October before skies turn mainly clear from 3 October.

Forecast highs are near 33°C on Wednesday and 34°C on Thursday, with overnight lows around 24°C. Relative humidity at 8:30 am was logged at 86 percent on the past-day block. Sunset on Wednesday is listed at 5:47 pm and Thursday's sunrise at 5:50 am.

Babatpur airport METARs through Tuesday night into early Wednesday told a quieter moisture story than last week's heavy-rain alerts. Overnight reports repeatedly showed mist (BR) with visibility near 2.0 to 2.5 kilometres, light winds around 4 to 8 knots, temperatures near 25-27°C, and no significant change groups. Early Wednesday METARs still carried mist near 2 km with few or scattered clouds.

That combination - nil rain at the IMD city product, misty overnight aviation visibility, and a no-warning partly cloudy week - is a material shift from the extremely heavy and heavy rain warnings that closed last week and from Monday's separate river-gauge story on the Ganga. Weather and river level are related but not identical; a dry 24 hours at BHU does not by itself drop a swollen Ganga fed from upstream.

For city residents the immediate read is practical. Wash hanging outdoors is safer than during the storm spell. Morning commute visibility may still dip in mist toward Babatpur and low-lying approaches. Outdoor Ramlila and Pitru Paksha movement faces humidity and cloud more than a fresh cloudburst risk in the IMD outlook through early October.

Schools, markets and ghat-side work can plan around cloud and mist rather than a fresh red warning. Anyone comparing today's chart with last week's extremely heavy rain call will see how quickly the east Uttar Pradesh product has eased. Keep an eye on evening METARs if travel to the airport is early; mist near 2 km is enough to slow the first road stretch even when the runway itself is open.
