IMD Updates East UP Alert: Very Heavy Rain on 25–26 Sep, Heavy on 27 Sep

The India Meteorological Department has issued a fresh East Uttar Pradesh subdivision warning dated 25 September, and the update matters for Varanasi because the heaviest language now sits on Friday and Saturday rather than on a fading Thursday product.

According to the official table for East Uttar Pradesh, Day 1 (25 September) carries a Very Heavy Rain warning along with thunderstorm, lightning and squall. Day 2 (26 September) repeats Very Heavy Rain with the same thunderstorm-squall package. Day 3 (27 September) steps down to Heavy Rain, still with thunderstorm, lightning and squall. From Day 4 through Day 7 — 28 September, 29 September, 30 September and 1 October — the East UP box shows No warning.

That is a material change from the 24 September product that Dalimss readers already saw. Yesterday’s table had heavy rain on the 24th, very heavy on the 25th and 26th, heavy on the 27th, and thunderstorm-squall wording running through 30 September. Friday’s issue keeps the very heavy couplet on 25–26 September and the heavy day on the 27th, but it clears the late-week thunderstorm-squall lines and replaces them with a clean “No warning” stretch into early October.

For Banaras, the practical reading is simple. The next forty-eight hours remain the risk window for intense rain cells, waterlogging in low lanes, and brief traffic snarl on the ring and ghat approaches if a squall line crosses the city. Sunday 27 September is still a heavy-rain day on the official chart, so civic pumping and drain clearance through the weekend stay relevant. From Monday 28 September the official East UP warning board goes quiet through 1 October, which is the first extended clear window this product has shown in several daily revisions.

Squall and lightning language on Days 1–3 is not colour. It means outdoor work on open terraces, riverfront cable jobs and evening ghat crowds should treat short severe bursts as possible even if the morning opens only grey. Farmers and transporters moving perishable loads out of the eastern Uttar Pradesh belt toward Varanasi mandis will watch the same Day 1–2 very heavy couplet.
