IMD Updates East UP Warning: Heavy Rain From 25 Sep, Very Heavy on 26 Sep

The India Meteorological Department’s East Uttar Pradesh subdivision table issued on Wednesday 23 September resets the week’s rain risk for Varanasi and the wider Purvanchal belt.

According to the official warning page, Day 1 and Day 2 — Wednesday 23 September and Thursday 24 September — carry no warning. The alert opens on Day 3, Friday 25 September, with heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning and a squall risk. Saturday 26 September is marked more sharply: very heavy rain with the same thunderstorm, lightning and squall group. Sunday 27 September stays on heavy rain with thunderstorm and squall language. Monday 28 September and Tuesday 29 September return to no warning.

That sequence matters because it is not a reprint of Tuesday’s product. The earlier East UP sheet, dated 22 September, had flagged thunderstorms from 24 September and a heavy-rain stretch running through 28 September. Wednesday’s update pushes the first heavy-rain day to 25 September, inserts a very-heavy day on 26 September, and clears 28–29 September. Railway passengers using Cantt and Banaras stations should expect the usual mid-week caution language if thunderstorm cells build on the East UP belt — not because this bulletin names a particular train, but because heavy rain and squall groups are when OHE and yard work slow.
