HVPNL Shifts 66kV Bays for Sector 33 Metro Depot

GURUGRAM: Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited has started shifting two 66kV bays at its Sector 33 substation to free land needed for the entry to the planned metro depot, officials said.

The bays and associated gear sit in the way of the planned link between the proposed depot and the Millennium City Centre to Cyber City metro corridor. HVPNL is moving the equipment within the same substation campus so Gurugram Metro Rail Limited can take over the cleared patch. The work is estimated at around Rs 38 lakh and covers the two bays plus circuit breakers and current transformers.

January target for utility shift

Although the contract window runs to five months, Anil Malik, executive engineer at HVPNL, said the utility has begun engaging an agency and is targeting January for completion. Roughly 400 square metres at the substation are to be made available through the relocation.

The depot itself is proposed on about 53 acres in Sector 33, with construction estimated at around Rs 409 crore. GMRL has yet to finalise the civil contractor and is waiting for state government approval before that award. The utility shift is preparatory work so that depot access is not blocked once civil construction is cleared to start.

The same push sits inside a wider corridor-clearance effort on a 2.2 km stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bharadwaj Chowk, part of Phase I of the Cyber City metro corridor. Last month NHAI, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and HVPNL were told to speed up their packages and hand a clear corridor to GMRL. NHAI is redeveloping that stretch on behalf of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority. Feeders, a 1,600 mm water pipeline and other utilities still need relocation. HVPNL must shift 66kV overhead lines; DHBVN must shift 17 feeders and dismantle existing lines. NHAI also has to finish and commission the Sector 10 substation.

Phase I of the corridor, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, is about 15.3 km long and scheduled for completion in 2028 at a cost of Rs 1,277 crore. Officials put civil progress at around 15% so far. The alignment is planned with 14 elevated stations, from Millennium City Centre through Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai and Sector 9, plus a spur from Basai to Sector 101 on Dwarka Expressway.

For residents and daily users of the Hero Honda Chowk belt, the visible change for now is utility crews and substation work rather than depot walls. The January target on the bay shift is the near-term checkpoint that will show whether the Sector 33 entry land is actually free when GMRL is ready to move on civil works.
