State Clears Hero Honda Elevated Road Plan

GURUGRAM: The Haryana government has approved a roughly 2.25 km elevated road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk for the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority to execute, clearing GMDA to appoint a consultant and prepare a fresh detailed project report for the long-pending link.

The corridor is meant to ease the squeeze between the Dwarka Expressway side and the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48) approaches, where Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk stack office, logistics and airport-bound traffic. Officials described the nod as an execution mandate for GMDA, not as a claim that construction starts next week.

An earlier NHAI-linked proposal had pegged a three-lane elevated structure in this belt at about Rs 181 crore. That figure is a reference from prior planning, not a locked tender cost for the new GMDA DPR. The fresh consultancy will rework alignment, utility shifting and land needs before any civil bid.

What the approval changes on the ground

Commuters who crawl through Hero Honda Chowk toward Udyog Vihar, Cyber City feeders and the expressway ramps have waited through multiple redraws of this elevated idea. State approval for GMDA to own the project is the concrete change this week: the agency can hire a DPR consultant without waiting on another NHAI redesign loop.

Building an elevated deck over a live chowk means long diversions, night casting and careful handling of underground utilities. GMDA will have to publish diversion plans once the DPR freezes pier locations. Until then, ground-level congestion stays as it is, approval notwithstanding.

District and metropolitan updates often surface through https://gurugram.gov.in/ and GMDA's Haryana urban local bodies channels. Residents and logistics operators along the stretch should watch for land-notification and tree-cutting notices that usually precede elevated-road pier work.

The project does not replace Metro Phase 2 or other east-west links; it is a road-capacity fix at two named chowks. Mixing those headlines confuses timelines. Tuesday's state nod is specifically about Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk under GMDA.

Cost, lane count and whether the deck includes bus bays or only general traffic will return with the consultant's DPR. Treating the old Rs 181 crore NHAI sketch as today's budget would be premature. What is firm is the 2.25 km span, the two chowk terminals, and GMDA as the executing agency after state approval.

For office buses and freight that time their runs around these junctions, the near-term takeaway is planning certainty on who builds the elevated road, not a sudden free flow. Pier work, when it starts after the DPR, will itself add months of constriction before any relief appears.

Umang Bhardwaj Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk sit on different legs of the same congestion story: airport-bound and Dwarka Expressway traffic meeting NH-48 through-traffic and local sector spills. An elevated deck that only shuffles the queue to the next signal will not help; the DPR will be judged on whether it truly separates those streams.

State approval also signals that Haryana wants GMDA, not a drifting multi-agency committee, to own deadlines. Past redraws between NHAI and state bodies ate years. Putting GMDA on the execution line is meant to stop that bounce, provided the consultant is hired quickly and pier land is notified without fresh litigation.
