Post-Rain Fever Survey Covers 10,102 Homes; Dengue Tally Stays 29

GURUGRAM: After Monday's flooding left water standing in coolers, roof corners and low-lying plots, the district health department ran a rapid fever survey through 10,102 houses in a single day and reported no new dengue or malaria case on Tuesday.

The season's dengue tally therefore stays at 29, with no death recorded. Malaria remains at four cases for the year, and Tuesday added none. Field teams prepared 831 blood slides for malaria that day, taking the count since 1 January to 1,83,766. For dengue, 150 samples went to the laboratory, taking the year's tests to 7,334. Cumulatively, 10,40,503 houses have been brought under the survey net.

Civic notices are running in parallel. Under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1,599 notices have been issued so far to check mosquito breeding. The Tuesday bulletin did not mark any one ward or sector as the worst-affected pocket.

The timing is the point. Stagnant water after 75 mm in Gurugram tehsil is exactly the condition Aedes needs. The 23 August bulletin had already logged three fresh dengue cases that took the district to 29. The post-rain question was whether that number would jump within 48 hours. Tuesday's zero does not close the season; it only says the first sweep after the deluge did not find a new confirmed case.

Health teams are still being asked to look at the usual domestic list: coolers, flower pots, terrace tanks, construction pits and the water that collects on dumped garbage — a sharper risk this week because contractual sanitation staff remain on strike and heaps have sat through the rain. MCG has, in separate monsoon instructions, kept anti-larval work and evening fogging on the roster, with councillor complaints used to dispatch teams.

State-level numbers circulating the same week put Haryana's dengue count higher, with Gurugram among the heavier districts, though the local health bulletin the city is working off is the 29-case district tally and the 10,102-house Tuesday round. Five patients were still in hospital in an earlier state cut-off, with dozens already discharged; Gurugram's own bulletin continues to report no dengue death.

For households, the instruction from the department has not changed: empty the cooler tray, scrub the pot, do not leave a bucket on the roof. For the corporation, the 1,599 notices are only as good as the follow-up visit. Tuesday's 10,102-house sweep is a large one-day sample. It will have to be repeated through September, because the water that filled underpasses on Monday is the water that will breed in Sector 9A, MG Road and the older bazaar lanes if it is still there next week.
