Gurugram police act after CM convoy black-flag protest

GURUGRAM: City police on Friday, 21 August 2026, ordered a wide departmental crackdown after Congress workers waved black cloths at Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s convoy as it moved through Gurugram, while eight workers were named, booked and arrested in connection with the episode. The Chief Minister was travelling towards GenH at Gurugram University after attending a district grievance meeting when the protest took place. Black cloths were waved at the convoy, an act that police treated as a serious breach of security arrangements along the Civil Lines–university route.

Notices, suspensions and named accused

Eight Congress workers have been named, booked and arrested. They are identified as Neeraj Yadav of Manesar, Shiv of Ghatola, Nikhil of Bhiwani, Anuj of Kanhai, Harkesh of Feroz Gandhi Colony, Aman of Patauda Chowk/Manohar Nagar, Rajiv Yadav of Krishna Nagar, and Harendra of Tauru. Police have presented these names as part of the formal case arising from the protest near the Chief Minister’s convoy. The dual track announced after the incident—arrests of the named workers on one side, and show-cause notices, suspensions and the intelligence inquiry on the other—forms the official police response recorded for 21 August, with the administrative steps confirmed through spokesperson Sandeep Kumar on 22 August.
