Gay Man Stabbed To Death By Live-in Partner in Varanasi

Varanasi - A 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his male live-in partner following a late-night dispute at their residence in Varanasi’s Bazardiha area. Police have arrested the accused and begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The victim was identified as Deepanshu Rai, also known as Lucky, while the accused has been named as Kush Pandey, a resident of Sonarpura. The incident reportedly occurred late on Monday night and continued into the early hours of Tuesday at a property in VDA Colony, under the jurisdiction of Bhelupur police station.

According to the preliminary police investigation, Rai and Pandey had been living together for approximately a year. Police said the two had consumed alcohol before returning home, after which an argument broke out. Initial accounts suggest that the dispute involved cooking food and washing utensils, although investigators are still working to establish the precise trigger and sequence of events.

The argument allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation. Police suspect that Pandey attacked Rai using a kitchen knife ordinarily used for cutting vegetables. Rai reportedly sustained five stab wounds around the abdomen and lower chest.

Accused Called Emergency Services After Attack

Local reports citing police officials said Pandey contacted emergency services after the attack. Police personnel responding to a call on the 112 emergency helpline reached the residence and found Rai lying in a pool of blood.

Authorities subsequently confirmed Rai’s death. His body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and document the nature of the injuries. A forensic team also examined the scene as part of the investigation.

Pandey was detained at the location and later formally arrested. ACP Bhelupur Gaurav Kumar said further legal proceedings had been initiated and evidence was being collected to reconstruct what happened inside the residence.

Police Investigating History of Disputes

Investigators have reportedly been told that the two men had been in a relationship for a considerable period and had lived together for nearly a year. During questioning, Pandey allegedly told police that the couple had participated in a ceremony at a temple and regarded themselves as married. The statement remains part of the police investigation and has not been independently verified.

Neighbours reportedly told investigators that arguments had occurred between the two on earlier occasions, particularly after alcohol consumption. Police are examining whether a recurring domestic dispute contributed to the fatal confrontation.

A complaint in the case was reportedly submitted by Rai’s uncle, following which police proceeded with the murder investigation. The accused’s alleged statements to investigators will remain subject to verification through forensic findings, witness accounts, the post-mortem report and other evidence collected during the investigation.

Police have not yet publicly released the complete post-mortem findings or a final account of the motive. The investigation remains underway, and the allegations against the arrested man will be tested through the judicial process.
