Family Away for Funeral, Thieves Loot Cash and Valuables Worth Lakhs from Locked House in Sarnath

Varanasi: A major burglary has been reported from the Mavaiya area under the Sarnath police station limits, where unidentified thieves allegedly broke into a locked house and stole cash and valuables worth several lakhs of rupees.
According to reports, the family had travelled out of town to attend the last rites of an elder family member, leaving the house locked and unattended. Taking advantage of the situation, the burglars reportedly targeted the vacant residence during the night.
The accused allegedly broke the lock, entered the house, and ransacked multiple rooms before escaping with cash, jewelry, and other valuable belongings. The theft remained unnoticed until the family returned home and discovered that the house had been completely searched and valuables were missing.
The incident caused shock among residents of the locality, with many expressing concern over the growing number of property-related crimes in residential areas.
Upon receiving information about the burglary, police teams reached the spot and conducted a detailed inspection of the crime scene. Investigators have begun collecting evidence and are questioning local residents in an effort to gather leads.
Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby streets and establishments to identify the suspects and trace their movements before and after the incident.
