Man Stabbed to Death in Dundahera; One Arrested

GURUGRAM: A 33-year-old man from Dundahera village was stabbed to death after a dispute over remarks he allegedly made about the accused's sister, police said on Wednesday, and a 26-year-old man has been arrested.

The accused, identified as Vikram Kumar, was picked up from Old Delhi Road near Sher-e-Punjab Dhaba. He is a native of Patiana village in Bihar's Jehanabad district and has been living in Bhangrola village in Gurugram.

Police said information came in on 24 August that a man was lying dead outside Park Hospital on the Old Delhi-Gurugram Road. A team reached the spot and found Harjeet Singh, a Dundahera resident. A cousin who was present submitted a written complaint. He told police that his aunt had informed him someone had assaulted Harjeet, injuring his head and forehead, and that he was unconscious outside the hospital. When the cousin arrived, Harjeet was dead.

The cousin alleged an old village rivalry and named a person from their village and his associates. Udyog Vihar police station registered a case under the relevant provisions.

During interrogation, a senior police officer said, Vikram and the deceased were sitting together on the night of 24 August in an old building in Dundahera. In the conversation, the deceased allegedly made a remark about the accused's sister. Vikram then attacked him with a knife, stabbing him in the head and chest, the officer said. "We are questioning the accused," he added.

The sequence police are now locking down is narrow and grim. The body was found on a busy hospital frontage, not inside the old building where the quarrel is said to have begun. Investigators have to show how the injured man was moved, or walked, from Dundahera to the Park Hospital stretch, and whether anyone else was in the room. The cousin's first complaint spoke of associates and an old rivalry; the interrogation account police shared on Wednesday names a single assailant and a remark about a sister. Both versions are now part of the file.

Forensic and crime-scene teams had already examined the hospital-side spot, where the victim had injuries on the head and chest. The accused is in custody and being questioned further. Police have not, in the Wednesday briefing, named additional arrests.

Dundahera sits on the old Delhi-Gurugram corridor, a mix of village lanes, workshops and the hospital belt that night-time traffic still uses as a through route. A killing that starts in an old building and ends outside a hospital on that road is the kind of case Udyog Vihar police see too often: a private quarrel that spills onto a public verge before anyone calls 112.

The body was subjected to post-mortem procedure and the legal process will now turn on the weapon, the time of death, and whether the accused's account matches the injuries. Police said questioning is continuing.
