CRPF Jawan Critically Hurt After Truck Hits Scooter at Panchwati Crossing

A CRPF jawan suffered a serious injury to his left leg after a truck hit his scooter at Panchwati tiraha in Ramnagar on Saturday, police said, and was later referred to the trauma centre at Banaras Hindu University after first aid at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

Vindhyachal Kumar Mishra, son of Ashok Mishra and a resident of Rameshwarpura Colony, is posted with the 95 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force at Paharia. He was on a scooter when the collision occurred at the Panchwati crossing under Ramnagar police station limits on 22 August 2026, according to the station’s account.

A Dial 112 alert brought emergency responders to the tiraha. The jawan was first taken to LBS Hospital and then referred to the BHU Trauma Centre for specialised care of the left-leg injury, police said. The truck involved in the crash was seized. Inspector Sanjay Kumar Mishra of Ramnagar police confirmed the seizure and the hospital transfer sequence.

Panchwati tiraha is one of those Ramnagar junctions where scooter traffic from residential colonies meets heavy commercial vehicles cutting across toward the highway and the eastern industrial pockets. Saturday’s impact left a serving CRPF man with a limb injury serious enough for a trauma referral rather than a discharge from the first hospital — a measure of how hard the hit was, even before a full medical bulletin is out.

Police have not yet, in the initial briefing, named a finding on speed, signal discipline or right of way. What they have put on record is the identity and posting of the injured jawan, the place of impact, the Dial 112 response, the LBS-to-BHU referral, and the seizure of the truck. Those facts open the accident case while doctors assess the leg injury at the trauma centre.

For the 95 Battalion at Paharia, a road crash involving one of their own sits outside the usual deployment narrative. CRPF personnel posted in and around Varanasi often move between camp, city duties and home on two-wheelers; Panchwati is a familiar shortcut for riders from the Rameshwarpura side. That everyday commute turned into a trauma-centre admission within hours of the tiraha collision.

Ramnagar police handled a separate fatal truck crash the same morning on the highway near a petrol pump — a different case, same station desk. The Panchwati scooter hit is being treated on its own FIR track, Inspector Mishra’s account indicated, with the seized truck as a key piece of seized property for inspection.

Family members from Rameshwarpura Colony were informed after the referral, as is routine when a patient moves from a district hospital to BHU’s trauma wing. No official statement from the battalion headquarters was included in the first police briefing; the public facts so far remain those carried by Ramnagar police and the hospital transfer record.

As of Saturday evening’s police update, Vindhyachal Kumar Mishra remained under treatment at the BHU Trauma Centre for the left-leg injury from the Panchwati scooter-truck crash, and the truck stayed in police custody pending further investigation.
