Cricket Match Turns Violent: Youth Assaulted in Shivpur Following Dispute

VARANASI — A routine cricket match at Jagran Park in the Chandmari area took a violent turn on June 13, 2026, when a local youth was subjected to a targeted assault and stone-pelting incident. The Shivpur police have since registered a case and launched an investigation into the group attack.

The Conflict

According to the complaint filed by the victim, Dev Pratap Singh, a resident of VDA Colony Phase-2, he was playing cricket with friends at the park around 5:00 PM when a minor on-field disagreement escalated into a confrontation with another player identified as Divyansh.

The situation reportedly spiraled out of control shortly thereafter. Singh alleges that Divyansh summoned a group of associates to the park, leading to a coordinated attack by approximately 10 to 11 individuals.

The Assault

In his statement to the police, Singh described a harrowing scene in which he was surrounded and beaten. He reported being struck on the head with stones and suffering injuries to his hand during the melee. Furthermore, the attackers allegedly directed verbal abuse at him and issued explicit death threats before fleeing the scene.

Singh identified several individuals as part of the attacking group, including:

  • Shashwat Pandit (son of Manoj Pandit)

  • Aarav

  • Ankur

  • Divyansh Gupta

  • Rishabh Mishra

Several other participants in the assault currently remain unidentified.
