Canon India has issued a notice about newly installed LBP120 and MF270 series laser printers that may unexpectedly switch off during printing. Published on 12 October 2026, the notice identifies eight models and specific serial-number ranges. Canon says not every printer within those ranges will experience the problem.
For an owner who has just installed a printer at home or in a small office, the useful first check is the exact unit. A matching family name alone is not enough. Canon's official support notice lists a model and serial combination, so both need to be compared with the device.
The serial number is at the back of the printer, according to Canon. When recording it, retain the letters and every digit. The model suffix also matters: LBP121DN and LBP121DN II have different entries, as do LBP122DW and LBP122DW II. An owner should not use a nearby-looking model's range as a substitute.
The listed models and serial numbers
The following entries reproduce the identifiers in Canon's notice. Each separated range stands on its own. Isolated serial numbers are shown separately rather than being joined to adjacent ranges.
LBP121DN: NYTA048998 to NYTA049275.
LBP121DN II: PMNA002073 to PMNA002144; PMNA002157 to PMNA002201.
LBP122DW: NYNA046648 to NYNA046712; NYNA046803 to NYNA049425.
LBP122DW II: PMEA002073 to PMEA002126; PMEA002138.
MF271DN: 37B04401 to 37B04420; 37L27882 to 37L27896; 37L27902 to 37L27909; 37L27972 to 37L28635; 37L28648 to 37L28677; 37L29181 to 37L30281.
MF272DW: 36T07681 to 36T07720; 36U40027 to 36U41825; 36U41827 to 36U41830; 36U41832 to 36U41940; 36U41942 to 36U43986.
MF274DN: 36L12809 to 36L13087; 36L13092; 36L13174 to 36L13208; 36L13523; 36L13527 to 36L13530; 36L13534 to 36L13535; 36L13539 to 36L13568; 36L13601 to 36L13602; 36L13609 to 36L13628; 36L13649; 36L13776; 36L14000.
MF275DW: 36E34823 to 36E35670.
The gaps in that list are meaningful. For example, the LBP122DW II entry includes PMEA002073 to PMEA002126 and the individual serial PMEA002138. It does not name every serial number between PMEA002126 and PMEA002138. Combining the lowest and highest values into one continuous range would wrongly broaden the notice.
Likewise, MF274DN has several individual serials alongside its ranges. Owners of that model should compare the full identifier carefully rather than look only at the first few characters. A match means Canon has included the unit in the potentially affected group; it does not prove that the printer has already developed the reported symptom.
How to reach Canon in India
Canon asks users who encounter the shutdown issue, or who have further questions, to contact their nearest service centre. Its India service locator allows filtering by product, state and city. Selecting the relevant printer category helps avoid confusing a camera service location with the support route for a laser printer.
The company's consumer contact page lists 1860 180 3366 and 1800 208 3366 for service requests and warranty information, with telephone hours of 9 am to 8 pm, Monday to Saturday. Email support at customersupport@canon.co.in has listed working hours of 9 am to 6 pm on those days.
For printers, scanners and multifunction devices, Canon also lists WhatsApp support at +91 91085 10853. These are official published contact routes. This report has not booked a repair or obtained a diagnosis for an individual device, and the appropriate remedy needs to be confirmed for the owner's actual serial number.
What the notice has not announced
The notice does not specify the technical cause, a firmware remedy or a repair timetable. It does not publish the number of affected units or promise a free replacement. Its instruction is to seek service support, so an unrelated driver download should not be described as an established fix for this issue.
Nor does the document direct every owner of these printer families to stop using the device. A series-wide recall or universal failure claim would go beyond the text. Someone contacting support can keep the exact model and serial handy and describe whether the printer shut down while a print job was running.
The official photograph accompanying this report shows the imageCLASS LBP122dw II, one of the named models. Canon's India product page describes that model as a monochrome printer with automatic two-sided printing and wireless, USB and Ethernet connectivity. Its inclusion here is identification context, not a purchase recommendation.
For other current consumer-support coverage, Dalimss News has reported on LG television warranty conditions and CERT-In's Firefox and Thunderbird update warning. Those are separate notices; neither establishes the cause or remedy for Canon's printer shutdown issue.
