BHU Sets August 31 Cut-Off for Online PG Cancellation, Adds ₹1,000 Fee

VARANASI: Banaras Hindu University will close its online postgraduate admission-cancellation facility on August 31, after which students seeking to withdraw will have to use an offline process. The university will also deduct ₹1,000 as a processing charge from eligible fee refunds.

The directions were issued by BHU's Central Admission Committee. Fees already deposited will be returned according to the applicable refund rules, which means the amount can vary with the date and circumstances of cancellation. Students should not assume that every withdrawal automatically produces a full refund apart from the processing charge.

The deadline matters most to candidates holding or awaiting offers from more than one institution. Postgraduate admission calendars do not always align, and a student may have to decide whether to retain a BHU seat before another university publishes its final list. A clear online cut-off helps administration, but it can also compress that decision.

Anyone considering cancellation should save the submitted form, payment receipts and the acknowledgement generated by the portal. Screenshots are useful, but a downloadable receipt or email carrying a date and application number is stronger evidence if the request is not reflected later. Bank details should be checked carefully before final submission.

After August 31, the shift to an offline process may require students outside Varanasi to arrange documents or authorisation. BHU should publish the exact office, working hours, required form and whether a representative can submit it. An offline label without those details can turn a simple withdrawal into repeated travel.

The ₹1,000 processing deduction should also be displayed before a student confirms cancellation, not discovered only when money reaches the account. Transparent refund tracking would allow applicants to see when the request was approved, what rule determined the amount and when the bank transfer was initiated.

Admission offices face the opposite pressure: a vacant seat must be identified quickly enough to offer it to the next eligible candidate. Delayed cancellations waste capacity and create late movement in hostels and departments. A reliable online system therefore serves both the withdrawing student and the person waiting for a seat.

With the deadline approaching, PG candidates should read the current BHU notice rather than rely on messages forwarded in student groups. The practical checklist is short: decide before August 31 if possible, use the official portal, preserve proof and confirm the refund calculation. A small procedural step can otherwise become an expensive semester-long dispute.

Students who have already requested withdrawal should check whether a second submission would create a duplicate rather than speed the refund. The safer route is to quote the existing acknowledgement number in an official helpdesk message. Any change to the rule should be verified from BHU's admissions page before action.
