Sureri Registers FIR After Baragaon Man Alleges Fake Arms Case and Extortion

Sureri police in neighbouring Jaunpur district registered a late-Tuesday FIR on the complaint of a Baragaon-area resident of Varanasi who alleged he was kidnapped, filmed with an illegal firearm and pressed for money under threat of a false case.

The complainant, Sushil Kumar Pandey of Chilbila under Baragaon police station in Varanasi district, told police that on the morning of 13 September he was walking toward a temple when acquaintance Rajendra Dubey called him to meet near the highway. Pandey alleged that Dubey was waiting in a car and that four other men arrived, forced him into the vehicle and identified themselves as policemen without showing uniforms or identity cards. He further alleged he was taken to Sureri police station in Jaunpur without any information to the local Varanasi station.

At the station, according to the complaint, the men made him hold an illegal firearm and recorded a video, threatened to brand him an arms or narcotics offender, and demanded ₹5 lakh. Pandey alleged that after family talks he paid ₹1.05 lakh in cash and, separately, transferred money by UPI to an account linked to Vanshnarayan Giri in three tranches of ₹55,000, ₹5,000 and ₹299, for which he said he later handed transaction details to investigators. He asked that Sureri’s 13 September CCTV and the alleged video and signed papers be preserved.

The FIR names Rajendra Dubey, Vanshnarayan Giri and four unidentified policemen on allegations including kidnapping, robbery and extortion. Jaunpur SSP Kunwar Anupam Singh assigned the investigation to SP Rural Ashish Kumar.
