Indian Railways has approved a MEMU pair numbered 65123 and 65124 on the Banaras–Prayagraj Rambagh section, opening a dedicated suburban-style service option for passengers who travel the corridor via Madhosingh, Gyanpur Road and Handia Khas.

The decision was conveyed to Bhadohi Member of Parliament Dr Vinod Kumar Bind by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw after the MP had placed stoppage and service demands for the stretch. Bind said the approval is meant to improve regional connectivity for people who use the Banaras–Prayagraj alignment for daily and short-haul travel.

MEMU rakes are built for frequent stops and denser seating than long-distance expresses. On a section that already carries mixed traffic between Banaras and Prayagraj Rambagh, a numbered pair with intermediate halts at Madhosingh, Gyanpur Road and Handia Khas gives students, traders and office-goers a clearer timetable product once commercial introduction follows the ministry nod.

The corridor links eastern Uttar Pradesh city traffic with Prayagraj's Rambagh side and the stations in between that serve Bhadohi district towns. Gyanpur Road, in particular, is a regular boarding point for passengers who otherwise depend on irregular stoppages of longer trains. A MEMU pair dedicated to the route is meant to reduce that uncertainty.

Commercial introduction still depends on rake allotment, crew rostering and the final public timetable. The ministry communication confirms approval of the train numbers and the via path; it does not by itself publish the first day of run. Passengers are being told to watch Northern and North Eastern Railway public notices and the National Train Enquiry System for the start date and exact timings.

Bind had also raised other stoppage requests for trains serving the belt. The MEMU clearance is the item that directly adds a new service rather than only adjusting an existing express. For Banaras-side travellers heading toward Prayagraj for work or onward connections, that distinction matters once the pair actually enters the working timetable.

Railway planners treat MEMU introductions as capacity tools on busy short corridors. The Banaras–Prayagraj Rambagh path fits that pattern: dense intermediate demand, limited comfortable unreserved options, and a need for predictable daytime frequency. How many trips each number will run per day will be clear only when the operating circular is issued.

Until then, the verified public fact is the approval itself. Train numbers 65123 and 65124 are cleared for the Banaras–Prayagraj Rambagh MEMU via Madhosingh, Gyanpur Road and Handia Khas. Station staff along the route can expect questions from passengers starting immediately; the answer for now is that the green signal is given and the first commercial date will follow in official railway notices.

For now, long-distance passengers should not assume the MEMU replaces express stoppages they already use. The new pair is an addition aimed at short and medium hops on the same geography. Once NTES shows the first public timings, Banaras and Prayagraj Rambagh booking windows will make the practical difference clear.
