Over 800 Doctors Converge as API UP Chapter Conference Opens in Rohania

More than eight hundred doctors are in Varanasi this weekend as the Uttar Pradesh chapter of the Association of Physicians of India opens its 43rd annual conference at Hotel Lemon Tree and the Gokul Dham banquet hall in Rohania.

The two-day meeting runs on Saturday and Sunday, 26 and 27 September. Organisers spelled out the logistics at a Friday evening press conference in the Telemedicine Centre auditorium of the BHU hospital. Organising committee chairman Prof. K.K. Gupta, secretary Prof. L.P. Meena, co-chairman Prof. Jaya Chakravarty, treasurer Dr Arun Singh and Dr Nilesh Kumar briefed reporters on the headcount, venues and inauguration plan.

Banaras Hindu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi is the chief guest for the opening. Expected on the dais are API national president Prof. G. Narsimulu, IMS-BHU director Prof. S.N. Sankhwar, former API president Prof. Jyotirmoy Pal, UP API chairman Dr Sanjay Tandon and chairman-elect Dr Richa Giri. Padma Shri Prof. Kamalakar Tripathi and Prof. Shyam Sundar are due to be honoured for their work in medicine, medical education and health services.

Scientific sessions will dig into treatment protocols for diabetes, heart disease, diarrhoea, haemophilia, pain, gynaecology and neurology, along with lipid disorders, innovation, research and newer drugs. Organisers said recommendations from the floor will be forwarded to the Union Health Ministry, NITI Aayog and other bodies. The conference is being held with BHU’s cooperation; the Rohania hotel and banquet venues are where the bulk of Saturday and Sunday programming sits.

Diabetes and heart sessions are expected to draw the largest rooms, because those diseases fill outpatient queues across Purvanchal. Haemophilia and antimicrobial resistance slots are narrower but matter for referral hospitals that see bleeding disorders and stubborn infections. Delegates from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Uttarakhand and Bihar were listed among the travelling cohort at the Friday briefing.
