Zomato Rider Dies on Shikohpur Road Crash

GURUGRAM: A 24-year-old Zomato delivery executive died after a car allegedly rammed his scooty head-on on Shikohpur Road late Friday night, police said, in a case registered separately at Kherki Daula police station.

Amit Kumar, a native of Gopalganj in Bihar, lived in Naharpur and worked out of Zomato's Sector 69 office. He was riding a ZYPP scooty from Vatika Chowk toward Shikohpur to deliver an order when the collision occurred around 11.50 pm, according to the complaint filed by his relative Vijay Kumar.

Complaint, hospital and FIR

Vijay told police that the car was travelling at high speed from the opposite direction when it allegedly hit Amit's scooty. Passers-by took him to MET Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police later shifted the body to Civil Hospital, Sector 10, for post-mortem.

Vijay said Amit was the son of his maternal aunt Malti Devi and had been staying with their family. As Malti Devi was in Bihar and would take time to reach Gurugram, Vijay approached the police and filed the complaint. An FIR was registered under sections 106 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said they are examining the accident site and other available leads to establish the sequence of events and to trace the driver. No named accused or vehicle registration had been confirmed in the preliminary account available for reporting. Allegations remain under investigation and are subject to evidence.

The Shikohpur Road case is distinct from the Cyber Hub hit-and-run already under a separate probe. Delivery riders on the Vatika Chowk to Shikohpur belt often work late into the night on mixed-speed corridors where cars and two-wheelers share narrow stretches. Investigators typically look for nearby CCTV, dashcam clips and eyewitness accounts in the first 48 hours. Platform delivery work puts riders on the road at hours when arterial stretches toward Shikohpur and Vatika still carry fast through-traffic. Amit's relatives said he was on an active order when the alleged head-on impact happened. Post-mortem at Civil Hospital, Sector 10, will form part of the case papers alongside the relative's complaint and site inspection notes.

As with the Sector 77 case the same night, investigators need a vehicle identity before the file can move from unknown accused to a named suspect. Police have asked for public help with videos and eyewitness accounts from the Shikohpur Road corridor around 11.50 pm. Allegations of rash driving causing death remain under investigation and are not proven in court at this stage.
