Akhilesh Yadav Targets BJP Over Condition of Varuna River in Varanasi

Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh: Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched a sharp political attack on the BJP government over the condition of the Varuna River in Varanasi.
Sharing a picture and referring to the river's green appearance, Akhilesh Yadav took a swipe at the ruling party with the remark, "Khet Sukhe, Nadi Hariyayi, Jab Se Hai BJP Aayi" (Fields have dried up, while the river has turned green since the BJP came to power).
The statement quickly gained attention on social media, sparking political debate over environmental management and the condition of water bodies in the state. Supporters of the Samajwadi Party echoed concerns about pollution and maintenance of rivers, while BJP supporters criticized the remarks as politically motivated.
The Varuna River, one of the important tributaries associated with Varanasi, has often been at the center of discussions regarding cleanliness, encroachment, and conservation efforts. Environmental issues related to the river have been raised by activists and local residents on multiple occasions.
Akhilesh Yadav's comments have added a political dimension to the ongoing discussion, with both opposition and ruling party leaders expected to continue the debate over development and environmental management in Uttar Pradesh.
