Man Held After Live-in Partner Dies in Dharam Colony

GURUGRAM: Palam Vihar police have arrested a 33-year-old bus driver after his live-in partner died following an alleged assault at a rented house in Dharam Colony on Tuesday, officials said.

Police said they received information on Tuesday that a woman was lying injured inside a rented house in the colony. A team reached the spot, found her seriously hurt, and moved her to hospital with ambulance help. Doctors declared her dead. Scene-of-Crime and Fingerprint teams inspected the premises and collected evidence.

What the complaint and police say

According to the landlord's complaint, he had rented the house to the accused. After hearing a commotion, the landlord came outside and allegedly saw his tenant, Akash, assaulting the woman and hitting her on the head before fleeing. On that complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections at Palam Vihar police station and arrested the accused within hours.

Officers identified him as Akash, a Bareilly resident of Uttar Pradesh who works as a bus driver in Gurugram and was living in Dharam Colony. A senior officer said investigation indicated the deceased was not his wife and that the two had been in a live-in relationship since 2020. Police alleged that after an argument on Tuesday he assaulted her with a stick, a pipe and a rolling pin, causing injuries that proved fatal. Officers said those three objects were recovered from the spot and that questioning continues.

All of the above remains an allegation under investigation. Arrest and recovery of objects do not decide guilt; that determination rests with the courts after evidence is tested. Police have not publicly released the woman's name in the briefing relied on for this report, and further details on the motive beyond the alleged argument were not confirmed in the same account.
