Varanasi Airport Suspends 12 Flights Amid Rising Aviation Fuel Costs; Airfares Likely to Increase

Air travel from Varanasi is expected to become more challenging and expensive after airlines temporarily suspended 12 flights operating through Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. The decision comes amid a continuous rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, which has significantly increased operational costs for airline companies.

According to airport officials, airlines including IndiGo, Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air have reduced services on selected routes due to higher fuel expenses and lower passenger demand on certain sectors. Airport Director Puneet Gupta stated that operating flights on some routes has become economically unviable, prompting airlines to temporarily halt services.

The suspension is likely to impact passengers traveling between Varanasi and major cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and other destinations. With fewer flights available, travelers may face difficulties in securing tickets, while increased demand on the remaining services could lead to higher airfares in the coming weeks. Industry experts warn that if fuel prices continue to rise, additional routes may also come under pressure, further affecting air connectivity and travel costs.
