Youth Drowns in Ganga at Panchganga Ghat in Varanasi, NDRF Recovers Body After 30-Minute Search

A tragic incident took place at Panchganga Ghat in Varanasi where a young man drowned in the Ganges River while taking a bath.

According to reports, the young man had come to Varanasi with his friend to visit the city. After bathing in the river, they were planning to go for darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. However, while bathing, he went into deep water and slipped, after which he drowned.

The deceased has been identified as Shyam Kumar, a resident of Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district of Bihar.

Boatmen present at the ghat said that the two friends were bathing while one of them was taking photos. They had warned them not to go into deep water, but they did not listen. When the young man started drowning, some people tried to save him but could not rescue him.

The police were informed immediately, and within about half an hour a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the spot. The team searched the river for around 30 minutes and then brought the young man out of the water.

He was taken for a medical check, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been kept in the mortuary.

Police have informed the victim’s father. It is reported that Shyam Kumar was a graduation student, and his father works in a private company. Further action is being taken by the police.
