VARANASI: In a landmark decision aimed at supporting the city’s daily wage earners, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has announced a complete waiver of license fees for cycle rickshaws, trolleys, and handcarts.

The Executive Committee, in a meeting chaired by Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari, decided that rickshaw pullers and handcart owners will no longer need to pay any license fees. Furthermore, they are now exempt from the tedious process of visiting the corporation office to renew or obtain permits.

The VMC also decided to simplify the bylaws for various other establishments. The licensing process for guest houses, home stays, private hospitals, nursing homes, and hotels will now be streamlined and moved online. Mayor Tiwari emphasized that the move is designed to end the harassment of small-scale workers and ensure "Ease of Doing Business" for local traders. The decision brings immediate financial and administrative relief to thousands of families in Kashi who rely on daily labor for their livelihood.
