India's foldable shelf just got a second serious Android contender. vivo priced the X Fold6 at Rs 2,19,999 on 6 October, and it goes on sale on 13 October. Samsung has two Fold models on sale already, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the slimmer Galaxy Z Fold8. If you are about to spend around Rs 2 lakh on a phone that opens like a book, here is how the three compare on paper.
We used vivo's India launch release and Samsung India's store pages for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8. All prices are as listed, price as of 7 October 2026, 1:35 AM IST.
The price ladder
The vivo X Fold6 comes in one configuration, 12GB RAM with 512GB storage, at Rs 2,19,999.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has an MRP of Rs 2,04,999 for 12GB plus 256GB and Rs 2,24,999 for 12GB plus 512GB. Samsung's store was showing a Rs 10,000 saving on both, taking them to Rs 1,94,999 and Rs 2,14,999 at the time we checked.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 has an MRP of Rs 1,84,999 for 12GB plus 256GB and Rs 2,04,999 for 12GB plus 512GB, with the same Rs 10,000 saving shown, bringing them to Rs 1,74,999 and Rs 1,94,999.
So at 512GB, the X Fold6 sits Rs 5,000 below the Fold8 Ultra's MRP but Rs 5,000 above its discounted store price. The regular Fold8 is the cheapest way into this group by some distance. Samsung's store discounts and bank offers can change daily, and vivo's own launch offers include an online instant cashback of Rs 26,400 with selected banks, so compare the final checkout price on the day you buy.
Screens and size
The X Fold6 has an 8.02-inch main screen and a 6.51-inch cover screen, both 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive panels with up to 5,000 nits local peak brightness.
Samsung lists screen sizes in centimetres. The Fold8 Ultra has a 20.31cm main display, about 8 inches, and a 16.48cm cover display, about 6.5 inches. So on size, the vivo and the Ultra are almost identical. The regular Fold8 is smaller: a 19.32cm main screen, about 7.6 inches, and a 13.84cm cover screen, about 5.4 inches.
That smaller cover screen on the Fold8 is the trade-off for its weight. A 6.5-inch outer screen works like a normal phone when folded. A 5.4-inch one feels narrower for typing.
Weight and build
Samsung's big claim is weight. The Fold8 is 201g, which Samsung calls the world's lightest fold, and the Fold8 Ultra is 215g. Samsung says it uses Flex Titanium with a titanium alloy film in the display structure and Advanced Armor Aluminum for the frame.
vivo has not listed a weight for the X Fold6 in its India release. Until it does, we cannot say how it compares in the hand, and that is a real gap for a phone you will carry all day.
On water and dust, vivo lists IPX8, IPX9 and IP5X ratings for the X Fold6, plus what it calls freeze resistance.
Battery and charging
This is where vivo pulls ahead on paper. The X Fold6 has a 6,900 mAh battery with 80W wired and 40W wireless charging. vivo calls it the biggest battery in a foldable in India.
Samsung lists 5,000 mAh for the Fold8 Ultra and 4,800 mAh for the Fold8, with up to 26 hours of video playback quoted for the Fold8. Samsung's store page did not show a charging wattage in the section we read, and the Fold8 does not include a travel adapter in the box, according to the listing.
A 1,900 mAh gap over the Ultra is large. Battery life also depends on the chip and software, but if you are tired of charging a foldable twice a day, the vivo's spec sheet is the most reassuring of the three.
Chips and cameras
The X Fold6 uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, tuned with MediaTek for this phone. Both Samsung Folds use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.
For cameras, the X Fold6 has a 200MP ZEISS main camera with optical stabilisation and a ZEISS APO telephoto camera on the Sony LYTIA 602 sensor, with up to 100x zoom. Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera on the Fold8 Ultra and a 50MP wide camera on the Fold8. If camera hardware is your priority, it is between the vivo and the Ultra.
Software and extras
The X Fold6 ships with OriginOS 7, with Origin Workbench for up to five apps at once and Desktop Mode for a PC or TV. Samsung's Folds run Galaxy AI on One UI, and Samsung has been refining the Fold line since the first model in 2019, according to its own newsroom. vivo adds three months of Google AI Pro and priority walk-in access to try its Vision mixed reality headset at 15 stores until 5 January 2027.
Service matters at this price too. Foldable screen repairs are expensive with any brand, so check the nearest authorised service centre and the cost of damage protection plans for your city before you buy.
Which one should you buy?
The vivo X Fold6 makes sense if battery life and zoom photography matter most and you are comfortable waiting for reviews on weight and durability.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the safer choice if you want a big cover screen, a 200MP camera and Samsung's service network, at a similar price.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is for people who care most about carrying less. At 201g it is lighter than the 218g Galaxy S25 Ultra, by Samsung's own figures, and it is the cheapest of the three.
Our reviewer spent a week with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in Varanasi if you want a real-world view of Samsung's lighter model. For vivo's wider festive line-up, see our vivo V80 launch preview.
