Varanasi Voter List Update 2026: 4.23 Lakh Names Removed, 1.5 Lakh New Voters Added After Revision

In a significant electoral update, the final voter list of Varanasi has been released under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), reflecting major changes in the district’s voter database.
According to officials, approximately 4.23 lakh names have been removed from the electoral roll, while around 1.50 lakh new voters have been added during the revision process. This has led to a notable decline in the total number of voters in the district.
The revision process, which began in October 2025, initially recorded over 3.15 million voters. However, after the final publication on April 10, 2026, the total voter count has dropped to approximately 2.73 million.
Authorities explained that the draft electoral roll was released in January 2026, followed by a dedicated period for claims and objections. During this phase, eligible new voters were enrolled, while duplicate, shifted, or ineligible entries were systematically removed to ensure accuracy and transparency.
The District Administration confirmed that the updated voter list has been shared with all major political parties to maintain fairness in the electoral process.
Officials have also urged residents to verify their names in the updated list. Citizens can check their voter status either by visiting designated government offices during working hours or through official online platforms.
This large-scale revision is being seen as a crucial step toward ensuring a clean and reliable electoral roll ahead of upcoming elections, reinforcing transparency and voter authenticity in the democratic process.
