Varanasi–Vijayawada Direct Flights to Start August 13, Three Days a Week

VARANASI — A direct air link between Varanasi and Vijayawada is scheduled to begin on August 13, giving travellers between eastern Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh a journey of under two hours instead of a connection through another city.

The service is planned for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. According to the announced timetable, flight 6E 6501 will leave Varanasi at 3.55 pm and arrive in Vijayawada at 5.50 pm. The return, 6E 6502, is scheduled to depart Vijayawada at 6.20 pm and reach Varanasi at 8.15 pm. The aircraft then continues towards Kolkata, creating another link within the same rotation.

Schedules published by flight-tracking services also place the non-stop journey at roughly one hour and 55 minutes. Travellers should still confirm the live timetable with the airline before paying, especially during the first weeks of a new route when timings can be adjusted.

WHO GAINS FROM THE NEW LINK

The obvious passenger group is pilgrims. A direct service gives families from Vijayawada and nearby Andhra districts easier access to Kashi Vishwanath, the ghats and Sarnath. In the other direction, travellers from Varanasi gain a faster route towards Vijayawada and the wider Krishna district, including business, education and family travel.

Three flights a week are not a daily bridge, but they can change how a short trip is planned. A passenger who previously spent much of the day changing aircraft may now complete the journey in one afternoon. That matters for elderly travellers and families carrying luggage, for whom a connection is more than an inconvenience.

The route also has a business case. Varanasi's tourism and hospitality economy draws visitors from across India, while traders, students and professionals move between Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. The continuing Varanasi–Kolkata sector may help the airline combine demand from more than one city rather than rely on a single point-to-point market.

A new route announcement is not the same thing as a guarantee of a particular fare. Ticket prices will vary with demand, booking date and baggage choice. Passengers should compare the total price, including seat and convenience charges, and check whether the through rotation requires any special boarding instruction.

They should also allow enough time at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. Shrawan traffic restrictions can affect the road journey to Babatpur even when the flight itself is on schedule. A direct flight saves time only if the passenger reaches the terminal comfortably.

The first service is due ten days from now. Its long-term future will depend on consistent bookings and reliable operation, not the excitement of the inaugural photograph. If the three weekly rotations hold, the route will add a useful southern connection to Varanasi's expanding domestic map — and make one more Indian pilgrimage and business journey noticeably less complicated.
