Varanasi Police Arrest Man Within 20 Hours for Bomb Threat to Shankaracharya’s Lawyer
Varanasi: A man accused of sending a bomb threat to the lawyer of Shankaracharya has been arrested by Varanasi Police within 20 hours of the complaint.
The threat was sent to advocate Shrinath Tripathi, who represents Shankaracharya. According to police, the accused sent a message warning that the Banaras court premises would be blown up with a bomb and that the lawyer would also be targeted.
The message was received at 2:23 am on Thursday from an unknown mobile number. Tripathi said he noticed the message in the morning and immediately informed senior officials before heading to court. Police officers met him around 11 am and assured swift action.
The accused has been identified as Ajit Kumar Saroj, a resident of Recipur village under Jansa police station limits. He is a law student and reportedly practices at the Varanasi court with a senior advocate.
Police tracked the mobile number through surveillance and arrested him from the Jansa area. During interrogation, the accused claimed he had sent the threatening message to frame his neighbor in a personal dispute.
Station House Officer Sudhir Kumar Tripathi of Bhelupur said the surveillance and SOG teams coordinated to trace the number, which led to the arrest.
