Varanasi Plans 7 New Parking Facilities to Tackle Rising Traffic Congestion

Varanasi : In a bid to tackle the growing traffic congestion caused by rising vehicle numbers and lack of parking space, the civic authorities in Varanasi have announced a plan to develop parking facilities at seven major locations across the city. The initiative aims to reduce roadside parking and improve traffic flow in some of the most congested areas.
The identified locations include Assi, Lahurabir, Maidagin, Benia, Sigra, areas near the Collectorate, and the Queens College zone. Officials say these zones regularly witness traffic bottlenecks due to the absence of organised parking. The projects are currently in the design finalisation stage, with the tender process expected to be completed within the next six months, after which construction will begin.
A major component of the plan is a multi-level underground parking project near Sigra Stadium, where an integrated complex with parking and commercial facilities is proposed. The overall investment for the Sigra and related projects is estimated at ₹74.52 crore.
