Authorities in Varanasi have placed security agencies on high alert ahead of the Alvida Jumma (last Friday) prayers of Ramadan. The precautionary measures come as large numbers of devotees gather for prayers and in view of heightened global tensions, including the ongoing situation involving Iran.
To ensure peace and maintain law and order, senior police officials carried out inspections across sensitive areas of the city. Mohit Agarwal visited the busy Daalmandi locality and nearby mosques to review the security arrangements in place.
During the visit, the Police Commissioner interacted with local residents and shopkeepers in the Daalmandi area, appealing to them to cooperate with authorities and maintain communal harmony during the prayers. Police officials said the objective is to ensure that devotees can offer Alvida Namaz in a safe and peaceful environment.
As part of the enhanced security plan, women commandos have been deployed in the Daalmandi area and other sensitive locations to strengthen law enforcement presence and help manage crowds.
In addition, authorities are using drone surveillance to monitor the movement of people and maintain close watch over key areas. Police teams have also been stationed at important intersections, markets, and near mosques across the city.
Officials said the arrangements are precautionary measures to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Alvida Namaz. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant, follow security guidelines, and inform the nearest police personnel if they notice any suspicious activity.
