The investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has intensified after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a suspect from Varanasi. The arrest of Jaygovind Rai is being considered a major breakthrough in the high-profile murder case that has drawn attention across several states.

According to investigating agencies, the accused is suspected of having links to the logistical and support network allegedly involved in the conspiracy behind the killing. Officials believe the network extended beyond the shooters and included individuals responsible for arranging shelter, transportation, and operational assistance.

Chandranath Rath was shot dead in Kolkata on May 6 by unidentified bike-borne assailants, triggering a large-scale investigation by the CBI and state agencies. The murder shocked political circles and led to intensified raids and surveillance operations in multiple states.

Before the latest arrest in Varanasi, several accused had already been detained from Ballia, Buxar, and Ayodhya, indicating the possible existence of a wider inter-state criminal network connected to the case.

Investigators are now focusing on identifying the alleged mastermind behind the murder and uncovering the full extent of the conspiracy. Agencies continue to conduct interrogations and coordinated operations across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal as part of the ongoing probe.

Officials have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests in the coming days. The case remains under active investigation, and authorities expect more revelations as evidence and digital trails are examined.

The arrest from Varanasi has once again placed the city in national headlines, with the CBI intensifying efforts to crack one of the most closely watched criminal investigations in recent weeks.
