Varanasi Court Orders Registration Of Complaint Case Against Madhu Kishwar

Varanasi: A court in Varanasi has directed that a complaint case be registered on a petition filed by advocate Shashank Shekhar Tripathi regarding alleged misleading and objectionable content circulated on social media by Madhu Kishwar.

The order was passed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Varanasi, who, after examining the application filed under Section 173(4) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), directed that it be treated as a complaint case. The court has scheduled the complainant's statement under Section 223 of the BNSS for September 24, 2026.

According to the complaint, verified social media accounts allegedly published misleading, false, and objectionable content that could affect public order, social harmony, and national unity. The complaint also refers to alleged remarks concerning constitutional authorities, judicial proceedings, and content claimed to promote social discord.

The complainant stated that documentary material, including social media posts, legal notices, emails, WhatsApp communications, and copies of complaints, was submitted before the court.

In a statement, Shashank Shekhar Tripathi said the legal action was not driven by personal animosity but was intended to ensure legal accountability for allegedly false and misleading content circulated on digital platforms. He added that while freedom of expression is a constitutional right, it must be exercised with responsibility and within the bounds of the law.
