Varanasi Auto Driver Murder Solved: Accused Vishnu Yadav Shot In Leg During Police Encounter

VARANASI: The Varanasi Police have cracked the murder case of auto driver Mahesh Yadav within 24 hours. The accused, identified as Vishnu Yadav, was arrested and subsequently injured in a police encounter while attempting to escape.
The Murder (Jan 19): Around 10:00 PM on January 19, police received information about a man lying injured on the road near the Bihari area.
The victim, Mahesh Yadav, a resident of Sundarpur, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police investigations revealed that the accused and the victim did not know each other previously. The murder was the result of a sudden dispute, likely over money or fare (paise-baji).
After arresting Vishnu Yadav, the police took him to the spot for a crime scene recreation. While returning, the accused snatched a service pistol from a police officer and attempted to flee.
He fired at the police, prompting the team to fire back in self-defense. Vishnu Yadav sustained a bullet injury in his leg and has been hospitalized.
Police are currently verifying his background. So far, no prior criminal record has been found in the Varanasi zone.
