ULB Secretary Asks MCG to Clear Project Hurdles

GURUGRAM: Urban Local Bodies secretary Ashok Kumar Meena on Saturday reviewed development and sanitation works in the city and directed Municipal Corporation of Gurugram officials to coordinate with other departments and clear land, approval and tendering hurdles on projects announced by the Haryana government.

The meeting covered development schemes, road works, monsoon plantation, property IDs, sanitation, solid waste management and citizen complaints. Among the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announcements on the table were the base-level parking at Kaman Sarai, multi-level parking at Sadar Bazar, the MCG office building in Sector 14, the sports stadium at Wazirabad, and works on Drain No. 89, Atal Park and Smriti Kendra.

MCG reported that the Kaman Sarai base-level parking is 100 percent complete and that an operation and maintenance tender on a licence-fee basis has been opened. Work on the Sector 14 MCG office building is about 83 percent complete. Sadar Bazar is being taken up as a Smart Bazar with Rs 8.58 crore approved by the Finance and Contracts Committee; the project is at the tendering stage.

Ward-level civic works also came up. Construction of 15 toilets in Ward 27 is around 75 percent complete, while eight toilets in Ward 29 are about 60 percent done, officials said.

Sanitation numbers and Bandhwari legacy waste

On waste collection, MCG said 591 vehicles are on door-to-door duty through six agencies under an interim arrangement. Letters of Award for the longer-term cluster-based system went to two agencies on 11 September. The corporation listed 4,532 sanitation workers for sweeping and related work, of whom 2,859 are on the MCG roll and 1,673 are outsourced.

Extra deployment figures cited in the review included 215 tractor-trolleys, 19 JCB machines, 504 additional workers and 72 more tractor-trolleys. MCG also runs 23 mechanised road-sweeping machines, each said to cover about 30 kilometres a day, for a claimed daily capacity near 690 kilometres. Sixty-three dedicated units are tasked with cleaning 159 identified garbage vulnerable points.

At Bandhwari, the September 2026 waste inventory puts legacy waste at about 5.76 million metric tonnes. Of that, about 4.18 million metric tonnes has been processed and roughly 1.65 million metric tonnes remains. Meena asked officials to keep chasing departmental clearances so CM-announced works do not stall on paper.

For residents, the review is less about a new announcement and more about whether parking, toilets, sweeping and landfill processing actually move week to week. Civic coordination pages and service contacts for the corporation are listed at https://mcg.gov.in/.
