BENGALURU: Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 28,218 vehicles in September, of which 25,027 were sold in India and 3,191 were exported, the company said in a release dated 1 October. Its cumulative sales from January to September 2026 stand at 2,94,914 units, up 8 per cent on the same nine months of 2025.

The nine-month numbers

Domestic sales for January to September were 2,69,619 units, up 9 per cent from 2,47,081. Exports were 25,295 units, a 2 per cent fall from 25,743. Total sales were 2,72,824 units a year earlier.

The release does not compare September with September 2025, so it gives no year-on-year growth for the month. One simple calculation is possible from its own figures: the nine-month total averages about 32,800 units a month, and September's 28,218 sits below that average.

Against that average, September domestic sales of 25,027 units were lower than the roughly 29,950 a month implied for the nine months, while exports of 3,191 units were higher than the monthly average of about 2,800. These are averages worked out from the release, not figures Toyota has published.

Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President for Sales, Service and Used Car Business, said September "witnessed continued customer interest across segments." He added that as the festive season begins, the company remains "committed to strengthening customer engagement and working closely with our dealer partners."

Domestic business is the overwhelming part of the mix. About 91 per cent of the nine-month volume was sold in India, and in September the domestic share was a little under 89 per cent.

Where the cars come from

The release lists the products made at each Bidadi plant near Bengaluru. The first plant makes the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Legender, with an installed capacity of up to 1,32,000 units. The second plant makes the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Hilux, with up to 2,10,000 units. Total installed production capacity is given as up to 3,42,000 units.

The first plant was established in October 1997, with production starting in December 1999. The second began production in December 2010 on the same site, which spreads over about 432 acres, and the buildings cover about 74,000 square metres.

Other models in the line-up are the Glanza, Rumion, Urban Cruiser Taisor and Urban Cruiser Ebella, which are listed separately from the Bidadi products. The Vellfire and the Land Cruiser 300 are imported as completely built units.

Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan holds 89 per cent of the company and Vikramgeet Investments and Holdings Private Limited of India holds the remaining 11 per cent. The company reports 6,662 employees.

The company says its 2026 growth was supported by "optimum performance across domestic market", a phrase that carries no model detail. Toyota does not say whether the Innova HyCross, the Hyryder or the Fortuner led, so readers should treat the headline as a brand total only.

What buyers should read into it

These are company sales figures, which count vehicles sent to dealers and exports, and not registrations. The release carries no model-wise numbers, no waiting periods and no price changes.

For a buyer in Bengaluru or elsewhere, the relevant step remains a call to the dealer for the delivery timeline of the exact variant, along with the ex-showroom and on-road quotes. The company's statement points to festive-season engagement, but it announces no offers.
