Tamil Nadu schedules Super Speciality stray round from 26 to 28 September for in-service doctors

CHENNAI: The Selection Committee under the Directorate of Medical Education and Research has published a tentative stray-round counselling schedule for Super Speciality (DM/MCh) courses in Tamil Nadu Government medical colleges for the 2025 session. The PDF on tnmedicalselection.net sets a short window from 26 to 28 September for in-service candidates only.

Registration and payment open on 26 September 2026 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM for all eligible candidates on the merit list. Choice filling and locking run from 4:00 PM on 26 September to 12:00 noon on 27 September. The result is listed for 27 September. Provisional allotment orders can be downloaded from 27 September to 28 September 3:00 PM, and reporting ends at 5:00 PM on 28 September.

Who can register and what it costs

Fresh candidates who did not register in Round 1 or Round 2 must remit a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 1,000 online by debit card, net banking or credit card. Candidates who already registered in Round 1 or Round 2 need not pay again. Those who joined a seat in Round 1 or Round 2 and want upgradation must register so that a virtual vacancy can arise. Candidates who registered earlier but were not allotted or did not join may register and lock choices in this stray window.

Clear and virtual vacancies will be displayed on the website. Actual seats may differ from the displayed vacancy because of upgradation by Round 1 or Round 2 allottees. Anyone holding a Round 1 or Round 2 seat who takes a stray-round seat must vacate the earlier seat. There is no reservation in Super Speciality DM/MCh/DNB courses, as directed by the Supreme Court in the cited writ petitions. Counselling is exclusively for Tamil Nadu in-service candidates as per the Supreme Court order dated 2 December 2022 in W.P.(C) No. 53/2022, and allotment follows NEET-SS rank.

Joining papers and discontinuation risk

At reporting, candidates must produce originals including NEET-SS 2025 score card and admit card, Aadhaar, PG degree or provisional pass certificate, and permanent or provisional medical registration, along with scanned copies for the college. A self-declaration on suppression of facts is required. Tuition fee must be paid before the provisional allotment order is downloaded and the candidate joins.

In-service candidates who discontinue after the last date of joining must pay a discontinuation fee of Rs 20,00,000 to the Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai-10, besides forgoing tuition already paid. Until that penalty is paid, originals may be retained and the candidate may not be relieved. The Committee says it does not take responsibility for connectivity errors, so login credentials and OTP should not be shared.

Doctors still chasing a Government Super Speciality seat should treat 26 September morning as the hard registration start, lock choices before noon on 27 September, and keep certificates ready for a 28 September evening reporting cut-off. Feeder-specialty eligibility for more than one DM or MCh course should be double-checked before choices are locked, because the notice warns candidates to be vigilant about multiple eligible broad-speciality pathways when they fill preferences.
