Three Guided Heritage Walks Offer Early-Morning and Evening Routes Through Kashi

Visitors who want more structure than a hurried temple visit now have three guided routes through Kashi, each combining worship, walking, local food and a different slice of the old city. The Tourism Department packages are priced between ₹2,200 and ₹2,499 and run at hours chosen to catch either the pre-dawn temple atmosphere or the evening ghats.

The “Divya Kashi” route is the least expensive at ₹2,200 and begins at 2.20 am. Its itinerary includes Mangala Aarti and sparsh darshan at Kashi Vishwanath, along with Nandi, Annapurna, Vishalakshi, Pashupatinath, Chandragupt Mahadev, representations of the twelve Jyotirlingas and Manikarnika. A walk through Kachori Gali, Chandraghanta, tea and toast, and a drop near Chowk are built into a programme ending shortly after 8 am.

“Assi Kashi”, priced at ₹2,499, also starts at 2.20 am. After early darshan, participants travel by boat or e-bus towards Assi for Subah-e-Banaras. The route includes Jagannath and Narsingh temples, Swaminath Akhara, Tulsi Ghat, Ark Vinayak and Lolark Kund, with tea along the way. It is scheduled to finish at about 8.30 am.

The third option, “Old Kashi”, shifts the experience to the evening. From about 4.05 pm to 9 pm, it covers Guru Brihaspati and Khichdi Baba, the Man Singh Observatory, Rajendra Prasad and Lalita ghats, Ganga Aarti and VIP darshan at Kashi Vishwanath. A stop for Banarasi chaat brings the group back towards Chowk.

Bookings are being offered through darshan.kashi.gov.in and QR codes placed at locations including the railway station, airport and ghats. Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh said the packages are designed to give visitors a fuller encounter with the city’s spiritual and cultural geography.

The value of a guided walk will depend on execution. Groups need to remain small enough for narrow lanes, guides must distinguish documented history from folklore, and the promised timings must account for security queues and river conditions. Clear information about what the fee covers—transport, refreshments, entry, guide service and cancellations—will also help visitors compare the options honestly.

Kashi cannot be reduced to a checklist. Still, a carefully paced route can help first-time visitors understand why a shrine, akhara, kund, observatory and food lane belong to the same urban story. Organisers should publish language options, walking difficulty and accessibility limits before payment so older travellers can choose realistically. The three packages offer distinct entry points. Their long-term credibility will come from knowledgeable guides and respectful movement through neighbourhoods that are living communities, not a theme park.
