Thar Hits Bike Near Dwarka Expressway, Flees

GURUGRAM: Two persons were injured on Saturday night when a Thar allegedly swerved through traffic near the Dwarka Expressway, hit a motorcycle and fled without stopping, police said. Sector 10A police have registered a case of rash driving and endangering life, impounded the SUV and say they have identified the driver for arrest.

The crash took place around 8.15 pm as Rajesh and Dinesh were travelling towards Dwarka. Police said the Thar made sudden lane changes before striking the motorcycle. The impact threw both riders onto the road and dragged them a short distance. They escaped serious injury because they were wearing helmets and did not go to hospital for treatment, officers said.

A dashcam video of the crash later surfaced. Taking cognisance of the footage, police registered a case at Sector 10A police station under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators identified the SUV's registration number as HR16AG5200. The vehicle is registered in the name of Shakuntala, a resident of Bhiwani, an officer said.

Police described the SUV joining the main road in Sector 93, repeatedly cutting across lanes, then accelerating through a narrow gap between a WagonR and another SUV with the motorcycle moving between those vehicles. The Thar allegedly swerved left and hit the bike before speeding away.

Dashcam case, vehicle recovery and sections

A special team traced the Thar to a service station in Sector 93 and took it into possession. Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said the identity of the driver has been established and he will be arrested. Victims' statements were recorded under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

Officers said the vehicle also carries a prior challan of Rs 5,000 from August linked to dangerous driving and jumping a red light in Zirakpur. That earlier challan does not prove guilt in the Saturday crash, but investigators have noted it while building the driver's profile.

The case remains at the allegation and investigation stage. Police have not yet announced a formal arrest, though they say the driver's identity is known. The stretch feeding the Dwarka Expressway sees heavy mixed traffic of cars, SUVs and two-wheelers, and sudden lane changes leave little room for motorcycles caught between larger vehicles.

For riders on the Sector 93 approach roads, the incident is a reminder that helmets matter when an impact throws a bike down. For investigators, the dashcam clip has become the main evidence trail for reconstructing the sequence before the Thar left the spot. Further examination of the footage and vehicle documents is under way at Sector 10A.
