Ten Kashi Boxers Selected for Uttar Pradesh Championship Squad

VARANASI: Ten boxers from Kashi have been selected for the Uttar Pradesh men’s and women’s championship squad, giving Varanasi a strong presence in a 34-member state contingent.
The selection reflects sustained work in local gyms, where athletes train around school, college and employment schedules with limited recovery time and often modest equipment. Making a state squad is not the finish line; it begins a shorter, more demanding period of weight management, tactical preparation and travel.
The official list should confirm each athlete’s category and event before final entries close. Selection camps can produce late changes because of fitness, documentation or weight-class requirements, and public announcements should be updated promptly if that occurs.
Preparation beyond the punch count
Boxing performance depends on footwork, defence, timing and decision-making under fatigue. In the final phase, coaches are likely to reduce heavy sparring, sharpen combinations and protect athletes from avoidable injury.
Safe weight management is critical. Rapid dehydration may help an athlete reach a number on the scale but can reduce reaction time and increase medical risk. Teams should use qualified nutrition and sports-medicine support rather than informal last-minute methods.
The presence of both women and men in the state squad matters for the local pathway. Girls entering boxing need consistent access to training time, changing facilities, travel support and competition opportunities. A selection headline has meaning only if the system remains open to the next athlete.
What Varanasi institutions can do
Schools, universities and district sports bodies can help with leave, transport and recovery facilities. Small grants for gloves, headgear and competition fees often make the difference between attending a tournament and withdrawing.
Local supporters should celebrate the athletes without treating a medal as the only acceptable outcome. A championship exposes boxers to different styles and officiating, and the experience can improve the whole training group when competitors return and share what they learned.
Officials should publish verified results and avoid overstating achievements before bouts are completed. The ten Kashi boxers have already earned selection; their next task is to arrive healthy, prepared and within category.
For Varanasi, the representation is a useful measure of sporting depth. If coaches and institutions use the moment to strengthen grassroots training, this squad can become more than a one-event success—it can be evidence that a reliable pipeline of boxers is forming in the city.
Parents considering the sport should insist on qualified coaching, medical supervision after a suspected concussion and age-appropriate sparring. Expanding participation safely will give Kashi a better chance of producing athletes who remain in boxing long enough to reach national level.
