TCS Engineer Killed as Reversing Earthmover Hits Bike Near Moulsari Metro

GURUGRAM: A 27-year-old Tata Consultancy Services systems engineer, Tushar Kumar, died late Thursday night after a reversing earthmover hit his motorcycle near Moulsari Avenue Rapid Metro station. The driver of the machine fled. Police at DLF Phase 3 have registered a case and seized the abandoned JCB.

Tushar was riding home from work around 11.30 pm on a Royal Enfield when the rear bucket of the earthmover struck him. The impact threw him and the bike onto the road. He was wearing a helmet. Passers-by took him to Narayana Hospital in DLF Phase 3, where doctors declared him dead. A passer-by informed police around 11.45 pm.

He had worked in the city for four years and was staying with his uncle in Ramprastha City, Sector 37D. His parents live in Mathura. He was their only child.

His father, Harish Kumar, said police called him and he reached the hospital around 3.30 am to identify the body. “He usually left work around the same time every day. He had bought the bike about a year ago and would use it to travel to and from work. We never imagined that one day he would leave for work and not return,” he said. “I reached the hospital and saw my son there. He was our only child. We had sent him to Gurgaon to work and build his future.”

In his complaint, Harish alleged that the road work was being done at night in the middle of the carriageway without proper directions or indicators. Police said they are examining that allegation. An officer said a team went to the spot after the hospital alert and found the JCB, registration HR-36-AN-7050, left there. The machine has been seized. “We have recorded the statements of the individuals who were present at the spot. Further legal action is underway,” the officer said.

An FIR has been registered at DLF Phase 3 police station against the JCB driver under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 324(4) (mischief).

The earthmover was on road work near the Rapid Metro station, a stretch that carries late office traffic from DLF 3 and Cyber City toward the Yellow Line and the older city. Night repairs are common on these corridors because daytime closures back up MG Road and the expressway. What police now have to settle is whether the machine had lights, a spotter and a cordon, and who was in the cabin when it reversed.

Tushar’s death sits in a week when Gurugram has already logged several hit-and-run and construction-vehicle cases. The Moulsari incident is different in one respect: the machine was still at the scene. That gives investigators the registration, the work site and witnesses from the station precinct. Tracing the driver who ran is the next step.

Police have not named a contractor or a department in the FIR. The seized JCB, the hospital papers and the father’s complaint on missing night indicators will go with the case diary as DLF Phase 3 works the three BNS sections.
