Tamil Nadu opens MBBS and BDS Round 3 registration from 28 to 30 September

Tamil Nadu has opened Round 3 online counselling for MBBS and BDS seats for 2026-27. Registration for both the 7.5 percent government-school quota and the 92.5 percent government and management quota streams runs from 10:00 am on 28 September 2026 to 5:00 pm on 30 September 2026.

The Selection Committee under the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Kilpauk, has posted separate tentative Round 3 schedules. The 92.5 percent stream schedule is at this official PDF on tnmedicalselection.net. The 7.5 percent stream schedule is on the same site under the matching Round 3 notice for government-school students.

Rank bands and choice filling

For the 7.5 percent reservation for Tamil Nadu government school students, Round 3 registration is open to general ranks GR 001 to GR 3625, corresponding to NEET marks from 599 down to 177 in the table printed on the schedule. Choice filling and locking for that stream run from 2:00 pm on 1 October 2026 to 5:00 pm on 9 October 2026.

For the 92.5 percent government and management quota stream, including NRI and minority seats, registration and payment (if not already paid) use the same 28 to 30 September window. The schedule lists government-quota ranks GR 001 to GR 35926 with NEET marks from 705 to 177, and management-quota ranks GR 001 to GR 26956 with marks from 693 to 177. Choice filling and locking for this stream also run from 2:00 pm on 1 October to 5:00 pm on 9 October 2026.

Virtual vacancies are processed on 30 September 2026. Seat allotment processing is listed for 10 and 11 October 2026. Results are due on 12 October 2026. Provisional allotment orders can be downloaded from 12 October to 12:00 noon on 14 October 2026. The last date of joining is 5:00 pm on 14 October 2026.

Resignation portal for Round 1 and Round 2 joiners

A linked notice, Notification No. 29/SCS1(1)/2026 dated 23 September 2026, says the resignation portal for Tamil Nadu 2026-27 MBBS and BDS courses opens from 28 September 2026. It applies to candidates who joined in Round 1 and retained the seat in Round 2, and to candidates who joined in Round 2. Candidates who never joined an allotted seat are outside this resignation route.

The Selection Committee has said the last date for resignation will be announced later. Resigning before that stipulated date is treated as a free exit without fee forfeiture under the notice. Resigning or discontinuing after that date attracts forfeiture of security deposit and tuition fee already paid, plus the discontinuation fee set out in the government and management quota prospectuses.

Once a resignation is submitted on the portal, the seat is shown as vacant for the next round and the candidate cannot claim that seat again. The committee warns applicants to be careful before clicking submit.

Fees and 7.5 percent notes

The 7.5 percent schedule states that no processing fee, security deposit or tuition fee applies for that special reservation for Tamil Nadu government school students. Candidates in the 92.5 percent stream must complete any pending payment during registration if they have not already paid.

Login credentials and OTPs must not be shared. The Selection Committee does not call candidates individually; updates appear only on tnmedicalselection.net. Unofficial counselling agents have no standing in this process.

What to do before 30 September evening

If you fall inside the published rank and mark bands, finish Round 3 registration before 5:00 pm on 30 September. Keep NEET documents, community certificates and school certificates scanned and ready for the choice-filling week that starts on 1 October. If you already hold a Round 2 seat and are unsure about upgrading, read the resignation notice before you give up a joined college.

Round 3 is re-allotment and fresh allotment together. A better college choice is possible, but so is losing a safe seat if you resign without a clear backup. Check the vacancy lists when the committee posts them after virtual-vacancy processing on 30 September before you lock choices in early October.
