Varanasi: The growing use of abortion pills without proper medical consultation has become a serious health concern among young women in Varanasi. According to an Amar Ujala report, hospitals including BHU and private healthcare centres are witnessing more than 10 cases daily where women seek treatment for complications after taking abortion medicines without medical supervision.
Doctors warn that using abortion pills without proper examination and guidance can lead to excessive bleeding, infections, severe abdominal pain, incomplete termination of pregnancy and, in some cases, the need for surgical intervention. Experts say such medicines should only be taken after a medical assessment and under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
The issue also raises questions about the easy availability of these medicines at medical stores despite regulations regarding their sale. Health experts stress the need for greater awareness, responsible dispensing of medicines and timely medical consultation to prevent avoidable health risks and protect women’s well-being.
